Hellenic Open University, founded in 1992, is a Public institution, absolutely equal to the other Universities of the country, and provides its graduates with all the guarantees of Higher Education and the rights deriving from Greek Laws.

The mission of the HOU is to provide in distance undergraduate and postgraduate education and training, through the development and use of appropriate educational material and teaching methods. The objectives of the HOU include the promotion of scientific research, as well as the development of technology and methodology in the field of the transmission of knowledge in distance.

The Komotini Branch, housed on the 1st Floor of the "Nestoros Tsanaklis" Building, constitutes the administrative and educational hub of the HOU in the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. Its operation serves to inform the interested public about the educational programs of the institution, the provision of supporting services to students in matters concerning their studies, the promotion of the work of the HOU and the organization of events, lectures, educational seminars and the provision of expertise to issues of distance learning and lifelong learning in the wider Region of North Macedonia and Thrace.
